Wintry weather is blowing into the region on Thursday, as wind gusts reach as high as 50 miles per hour in advance of a snowstorm that could arrive after midnight.
The Boston area will likely see 2 to 4 inches of snow by 4 p.m. Friday, and there is a possibility that the storm could linger into the evening commute, National Weather Service meteorologist Lenore Correia said.
The height of the storm is expected to be between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., when snow is expected to fall at a rate of under an inch and hour, Correia said.
The South Shore could end up with six inches to shovel, according to the National Weather Service. Cape Cod and the Islands could have as much as 8 inches, Correia said.
